The 2019 NFL season is marked with some notable players and coaches with ties to the 509. We're going to be taking a look at some notable performances from these guys.

Joe Dahl - LG - Detroit Lions

WSU (born in Spokane)

Aside from Gardner Minshew, Joe Dahl is the only ex-Coug that's a starter in the NFL right now. The only real stat to grade an offensive lineman is sacks allowed. In week 2 against the Chargers, Dahl and the Lions gave up zero sacks.

Grade: A

Kellen Moore - Offensive Coordinator - Dallas Cowboys

Born in Prosser

When the Cowboys named Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator, many fans and analysts were skeptical. The Cowboys tend to make odd coaching choices and hang on to bad coaches for far too long. (Looking at you, Jason Garrett.) But Moore, who retired from playing in 2017, has had a hot start for the 'Boys. This should come as no surprise for people that watched Moore play for the Prosser Mustangs. He is a self-proclaimed football nerd. In week 1, he made Dak Prescott look like an MVP. In week 2, he followed it up with an equally great game of play-calling. The Cowboys offense had 474 total yards of offense, with the big stars getting the bulk of them. Dak Prescott had 3 touchdown passes, and was fairly accurate, going 26-30 for 269 yards. Dak added another 69 rush yards. Ezekiel Elliot had 111 yards and one touchdown on 23 rushes. It was a pretty even mix of run vs. pass plays. The Cowboys only had one turnover and dominated time of possession. They averaged over 7 yards a play and were efficient on 3rd down. If Kellen Moore keeps calling games like the first two of the season, he may be staring at a Head Coaching gig in the near future.

Grade: A

Greg Olson - Offensive Coordinator - Oakland Raiders

Richland High School Class of 1981

There's not a lot of good things to say about the Raiders' performance on offense in week 2. They were thoroughly outclassed by 2018 MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders jumped out to an early 10-0 lead. That lead, however, was quickly evaporated when Mahomes threw 4 touchdown passes in the second quarter. After the first quarter, every Raiders drive ended in a punt or an interception.

Grade: D

Gardner Minshew - Quarterback - Jacksonville Jaguars

WSU

After an extraordinary debut, fans wondered if Gardner Minshew could maintain his level of play once teams had some film on him. Heading into Houston, Minshew outplayed Texans QB Deshaun Watson. Despite a heroic week 1 performance on Monday Night Football, Watson didn't quite compare to Minshew on Sunday. The ex-Coug was accurate again, going 23/33 for 213 yards and a last-minute touchdown. Gardner posted a 97.2 QB rating in a heartbreaking loss. Down by 7 in the last seconds of the game, Minshew put on a drive reminiscent of Russell Wilson. He converted a 4th & 10 by scrambling for 18 yards with 52 seconds left. With 30 seconds left, Minshew floated a beautiful touchdown pass from 4 yards out.

Now, I'm all for an aggressive 2-point conversion to win the game, but Jags Coach Doug Marrone wasted Minshew's last-minute heroics. The "gutsy" call was a run play that saw Leonard Fournette stuffed at the goal line.
