It's a sad morning as we've received information that a Washington State Trooper was killed in an avalanche over the weekend.

WSP posted the passing on their Facebook page.

According to the posting by the WSP, They are aware of an incident in the French Cabin Creek area where a snowmobiler was trapped by an avalanche.

WSP confirmed that Trooper Steve Houle, a 28 year veteran of the WSP is the victim and has been found deceased.

Details of the incident will be handled by Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

WSP Chief John Batiste stated, “Steve was a great person and an excellent employee, loved and respected by us all. We hold his memory and his family close to our hearts in this painfully sad time.” Steve served for over 28 years with the Commercial Vehicle Division, all in Kittitas County.
