There was a big scene on Donald Wapato Road on Tuesday night according to news reports. A man and woman had taken a man's car at gunpoint after he picked them up hitchhiking. Police immediately searched the area and shortly found the suspects still in the stolen car. They tried to stop them but the suspects sped away at over 100+ miles per hour. During the chase the suspects crashed into another car near the intersection of lateral A Road and Highway 97 but that did not stop them.

Shortly after the collision, police tried to stop the car with "stop sticks" that deflate the tires but even with flat tires they still did not stop. Police finally had to use a patrol car to "contact" the suspects car and get it to stop. The driver tried to run away on foot but was captured by police. The couple, an unnamed 32 year old Wapato woman and 27 year old Toppenish man, were arrested and booked into the Yakima County Jail. The male suspect is facing charges of Robbery 1st degree, Vehicular Assault, Eluding, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The female is only facing charges of Robbery 1st Degree.
