The Kennewick Police Department has released video of a man believed to be the suspect in a large five-vehicle crash that occurred over the weekend.

It began with a Ben Franklin Transit shuttle van, which was allegedly stolen.

Police did not say when the theft occurred, but around 6:10PM Saturday night, a soon to be off duty KPD officer saw the van traveling east on 10th with no headlights. When he attempted to pull over the vehicle with a warning, it sped away at a high unsafe rate of speed.

At 10th and Ely, the officer broke off the chase due to traffic safety concerns, but about a minute later he came across a five car pileup at 10th and Olympia. The driver of the van blew the light, and caused a crash that totaled three vehicles, two others were able to be driven away. The BFT van was one of those destroyed.

The suspect driver fled the scene on foot, according to witnesses.

Fortunately no serious injuries. This surveillance video was said to be taken near the Heatherstone Apartments further east on 10th. The video was just released. Anyone who may have any information is urged to call (509)-628-0333. All leads can be confidential.
