The Umatilla County Fair is another casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic and has released an official statement concerning this year's fair. It looks like they'll be having a modified fair for 2020 due to the Governer's proclamation of no crowds over 250 people until the end of September.

The modified Fair plan includes moving 2020 livestock shows and auction to online while the usual regular concerts, contests, carnival, parade, and other fair activities have been postponed until 2021.

The Umatilla County Fair released a statement on their website discussing what changes are being made to this year's fair.

The release makes this statement:

First and foremost, we must keep the public safe and follow the orders set forth by the Governor’s office. A Fair subcommittee has been formed to work out logistics and plan the event for this August, creating a platform for the youth of Umatilla County to “exhibit” their projects and to show/sell their market animals. We will plan a modified 4-H and FFA market animal show and auction using available technology to ensure compliance with the Governor’s orders.

The Umatilla Fair is asking its sponsors to continue to donate even with the modified format so that the fair can remain financially stable.

The Umatilla Fair board believes its first responsibility is to the kids and the 4-H programs and to help support agriculture in the area so they are asking for the public's input on how to weather this setback.

Farm-City Pro Rodeo also announced on their Facebook page that they are canceling their events as well because both events are tied together and the Governer's proclamation of no crowds over 250 people until the end of September.

You can read up on the changes, see the statement, and follow the Umatilla Fair on their Facebook page here.
