Jersey Mike's Subs is coming to the Vintner Square in Richland with a projected opening date for later this calendar year. A company spokesman confirmed the New Jersey-based sub chain will open at 2729 Queensgate Drive in the Fall of 2021. It will be the first Jersey Mike's Subs in the Tri-Cities. A Spokane location is the current closest franchise outlet.

The Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business noticed an opening on the Jersey Mike's Subs website and on the job-posting website Indeed, where the company is seeking to employ a general manager. The salary ranges from $48,000 to $52,000 per year.

The story begins in 1956 where the quintessential mom-and-pop shop on the Point Pleasant, New Jersey, shoreline, known from its inception as Mike's Subs, started serving visitors from Philadelphia and New York City.

Peter Cancro started working at Mike's Subs in 1971 when he was 14-years old and then three years later, when he was shocked to find out the original owners were putting it up for sale, Cancro went to his high school football coach, laid out his story and vision in asking for financial help, and wouldn't you know it? That coach believed in the 17-year old kid and secured for him a $100,000 loan from the bank so he could buy the place. Cancro was running it by March of his senior year in high school.

You may have seen the TV commercial where Cancro takes you through the backstory of how his business came to be and the opportunities a career with Jersey Mike's Subs has to offer.

The Richland Jersey Mike's Subs will be located in the strip mall where there's already a Starbucks and a Bath and Body Works.

What makes Jersey Mike's Subs different? For starters, plenty of varieties of hot cheesesteaks and Tastykakes for dessert, and well, that's all I need.
