According to the Washington State Department of Agriculture, each year the state plants thousands of traps to monitor for infestations of one of the most invasive and destructive insects in the world - with extra focus on Benton, Franklin, and Yakima counties.
As part of a routine inspection of the bridge in May 2022, bridge crews observed breaks in the protective pipe around the suspension cables near the top towers on the Cable Bridge.
