Several Hanford Employees Fail Random Drug Tests
A testing sweep for alcohol and drugs resulted in several Hanford employees testing positive for substances that could interfere with their work.
About 2,800 employees work at various Hanford operations and they could be affected by the random drug testing. Workers have been notified that new drug testing procedures will commence in July. So far, several tests have already been given and have come back positive.
The reason for the recent program change is contractors at the plant are discovering more people failing random drug tests. They see a need to expand the testing efforts. Authorities also say drug trafficking has increased in the Tri-Cities.
Bechtel hasn't been specific on how many of its workers were affected by the testing but said disciplinary policies vary from employer to employer. Loss of position is definitely a potential consequence. You can read more details on the report results here.
