Jane's Addiction founder and former guitarist of The Red Hot Chili Peppers is coming to Yakima for a great cause.

The 26th Annual YWCA Leadership Luncheon will feature Dave Navarro, a renowned domestic violence advocate is also known widely for his work in the rock band's Jane's Addiction and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The Yakima YWCA released a press release discussing the event:

YWCA Yakima, CoBank and Northwest Farm Credit Services announces renowned domestic violence activist, Dave Navarro, as the 26th Annual Leadership Luncheon speaker on April 20, 2020 at the Yakima Convention Center. Besides being a domestic violence activist, Navarro is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, filmmaker, television and radio host. Best known as an original member of the iconic rock band Jane’s Addiction, Navarro has focused his life on taking a stand against domestic violence.
In 2015, Navarro released his first feature film, a documentary entitled MOURNING SON. Shot over seven years, the film tells the gripping and traumatic story of his mother’s murder by her ex-boyfriend and the fallout it caused in his life. Directed by one of his best friends, Todd Newman, MOURNING SON focuses on the psychology of the victims affected by domestic violence and Dave’s journey to healing. The project is very personal to him as he is featured in the film and served as a producer and co-writer.
In 2016, Navarro created the, #PutTheNailInIt campaign. The idea behind this movement is simple: by painting your ring finger purple, the official color of domestic violence, you are showing the world your vow to help spread awareness of domestic violence and displaying your support. Silence allows domestic violence to thrive. #PutTheNailInIt inspires

We hope to see you as we celebrate 110 years of serving the Yakima community. The Leadership Luncheon is the largest fundraiser for YWCA Yakima and all the money raised will be used to further our mission and support our 24-hour emergency shelter, transitional housing and crisis and legal advocacy for individuals and their children who are experiencing domestic violence.
