Robo Flaggers will be deployed along the Oregon freeways and highways so be aware of these automated robots on your summer vacation travels.

A death last year has prompted the Oregon DOT to deploy the robot flag machines.

The automated traffic flag machines will first be seen in July along Highway 730 between Umatilla and Interstate 84.

The flag machines have a crossing arm that drops down when a lane is closed. The flagger is actually at a safe distance controlling the robots so the robot flagger isn't unmanned.

The Robo Flaggers are more visible and safer for the construction workers and hopefully will protect workers from danger.

The DOT is reminding motorists that construction fines double and that ignoring the robo flaggers will result in hefty fines.
