Oops! Real Land Mine Found Outside Washington Army Base

Add this to the list of stuff that's never supposed to happen! Safety officials had to close I-5 earlier this month -- one of the busiest freeways in the state -- because they found an unexploded land mine!

It was discovered by a railroad crew working on some tracks near the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Fort Lewis) very close to I-5. Kudos to the RR guys for knowing what it was! They called the base, who sent out bomb disposal experts. Oh gosh.

Reminds me of all the stories about Bombing Range Road in West Richland. If you plan to do any digging out there, get a metal detector first!!!
