California Skateparks, a large design firm that has created training facilities for the Olympic team, has sent consultants to survey local skaters about their hopes for a new park.

Hermiston, Oregon, has pledged to build a new park and more than 30 enthusiasts showed up to the first input meeting.

The new park will be an acre and a half located across from the Hermiston Police station and fire station. It's only a block from the high school and not near any homes. The city is anticipating noise and litter won't bother any neighborhoods, and yet the close proximity to the police and fire will allow authorities to keep a close eye on activity.

Because all the funding has not yet been secured, the city has not announced an opening date. Rough designs could be ready to approve as soon as March, however.
