Tri-Citians absolutely love their woofer police officers, and a new K9 member of the Kennewick Police Department will be introduced tomorrow morning, January 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at KPD HQ. The Kennewick cop shop is located at 211 W 6th Ave.

You are cordially invited to meet K9 Ivan -  a 2-year-old German Shepherd / Belgian Malinois mix who came to the KPD from the Czech Republic.

Ivan was trained by Officer Kohn who recently retired after 30 years of service, 22 of which were with the K9 program. Officer Kohn has trained all of KPD's K9 officers over this time as well as those from other departments across the state.

Ivan has over 1000 hours of training and was certified with his handler, Officer Whitney, as a Patrol K9 Team through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission on November 13, 2020.

His primary duties are to help keep officers safe and locating suspects using his tracking and searching abilities.

Fun facts: Ivan has his own passport and loves his Kong chew toy more than life itself.

KPD would like to thank the Kennewick Police Foundation and the community for continuing to support our K9 program through generous donations.
