The Kennewick School District sent out an email to parents Tuesday afternoon, which read in part:

"A special meeting of the Kennewick School District Board of Directors will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30 to discuss school reopening. Health Officer Dr. Amy Person from Benton-Franklin Health District will be present to provide information to the board and to answer board questions.

Per Gov. Inslee’s order that prohibits this meeting from being conducted in person, the school board will meet remotely."

The email contains a link where citizens can submit questions and comments to the board prior to the meeting, click on the button below to do that.

We sent an email last evening, and DID get a response from one of the school board members. It read in part:

"There will be discussion as well as the opportunity to hear Dr. Person, from BFHD, and ask questions related to the most current information she will provide. In addition, there will be a public comment period during the board meeting. "

It did not contain any further details. We have another email into the Communications-PR Director of the KSD, specifically asking what information the BFHD will be sharing at the meeting, as well as the specific purpose for the meeting. Is it a general Q and A for parents?

UPDATE---We heard back from the KSD Communications Public Relations Department, who included this information in their email (in part):

"At the last board meeting, when the decision was made to begin hybrid learning on Oct. 12, the board indicated that they may call a special meeting on Sept. 30 if there was a change in the COVID-19 metrics. The board could vote to postpone the date to begin hybrid learning or move forward with the Oct. 12 date."

The BFHD will be presenting what is said to be new information to the board. So, yes, conceivably, the October 12 Hybrid re-start could be delayed, OR it could proceed as planned.
