In a press release from U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse, the U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a $9.9 million dollar upgrade spiff for the Grant County International Airport.

These federal funds will be used for runway and runway lighting reconstruction, to ensure the Airport stays in compliance with FAA regulations. The runway lights on the main runway are currently too far from the strip.

Grant County International Airport Director Rich Mueller said, “It’s about correcting the line-of-sight issue on the main runway. A plane at each end of the runway should be able to see each other for safety reasons, but there’s a hump on the main runway.”

Groundbreaking for the runway project is set for the first of the year with completion expected in early June 2020. The lighting issues will be corrected this fall. Ninety percent of this project will be paid for with federal funds.
