A Pasco police officer who is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault has now been linked by DNA to an old Spokane cold murder case. The murder victim, Ruby Doss, is pictured courtesy of the Spokane Police Department.

Detective Richard Aguirre, named Pasco Officer of the Year in 2002, recently resigned due to the assault allegations.

Pasco authorities have not released specifics about that case, except that the incident in question occurred last November. Spokane police say DNA taken in the assault investigation came back with a "hit" matching DNA from the 29-year-old Spokane cold case.

KREM-TV in Spokane is reporting that means Aguiree is linked to the strangulation death of 27-year-old Ruby Doss found dead near the intersection of North Fiske and East Ferry in Spokane.

Investigators are asking that anyone who may have been assaulted by Aguirre to contact Pasco police or the Spokane Major Crimes Division at 509-622-5849.
