First Death of COVID-19 Reported in Yakima County

The number of cases of COVID-19 keep growing in Yakima. The confirmed case count stands at 41 today (Tuesday) and presumptive positive cases have now been reported -- along with the first COVID-19 death.

Yakima Health Department spokesperson Lilian Bravo says the person who died was elderly and lived at a long-term care facility in the county. Neither the person nor the nursing home has been identified.
Yakima Health District officials continue to monitor the community for signs of the virus, and they're still urging people to stay at home and continue social distancing.
