This is an article I never wanted to write. When Ed announced he had cancer, I couldn't believe it. How could someone who means so much to so many people get sick like that?

I wish everyone had someone like Ed Dailey in their lives. When I met Ed, I thought I owned the world. I was an arrogant, hotshot kid who thought he was going to be the best radio DJ in the world. Not only was Ed a terrific teacher, but he was the mentor and father figure that I needed.

Eddy Dailey was born into the show business in 1956. His father, "Cuz" was a broadcaster who lent his singing talents to groups like the Sunshine Boys and Rangers Quartet. It didn't take Ed much time at all to find he was magic behind a microphone just like his father. By age 12, Ed had already become a radio DJ.

Ed had a golden voice, but his heart was just as precious. He had the innate ability to not only teach, but also to listen. I can't imagine how many kids came through Ed's classroom looking to find their way, some hope to cling to. Ed gave each student everything he could to help them go on to have healthy professional and personal lives.

A lot of people know Ed as the host of Legends of Country, a syndicated radio show that played the golden hits of country music's golden era. I used to run into him on Sunday mornings for years after I graduated. He'd have his iPod with him for playing the hits and we'd catch up. I remember being so proud to tell him how my firstborn child was doing, and in proper Ed fashion, he'd say, "A baby Iceman, huh? God help us." I loved that man.

Ed was a family man; he loved his wife LaJay dearly. He was a proud father and doting grandfather. He was also a man of tremendous faith.

The love that this community has poured out over the past year is a testament to the impact Ed had on people. He would give everything and never ask for anything.

I'd like to share something my mother told me this morning, something we should all strive for.

Ed found happiness in the end. It was a beautiful story.

I would like to close by sharing something from Ed himself. This is how I will remember him, by what he believed in. Please give this a listen as we remember Ed Dailey, in his own words.
