The Washington Traffic Safety Commission has released its latest data for Washington state, including a lot of accident information.

 What is the deadliest stretch of road in Tri-Cities?

The report contains a ton of data, from pedestrian vs. vehicle to impaired driving, city, highway, and other data involving infractions, crashes, fatalities, and more. It includes accidents and incidents on all types of streets, highways, and Interstates.

  One of the graphs that caught our attention was the fatalities in our region. The report contains data from 2016 through the end of 2020. It color-codes incidents and accidents and you can zoom in and out on the maps.

The deadliest stretch of road in the Tri-Cities metro area is Interstate 182 from the river to Pasco and Highway 12 from CBC to the Snake River.  According to the WSTC report, there have been 11 fatal crashes on that combined stretch of road, killing 12 persons from 2016-2020. The colored dots on the map below show fatalities, with a different color for each year.

The second-deadliest stretch is Highway 240 from Kennewick to Richland, where during that span there were four fatal crashes killing four persons.

   Fatalities are higher in Benton than in Franklin County

During that time from 2016 through 2020, there were 73 fatalities on Benton County roads of all kinds, 53 in Franklin. Yakima County had much higher figures, 157 fatal crashes occurred within the county limits. Do keep in mind these are from all roads, from city streets and county roads, to state and Interstate highways.
