Remember that horrible fire in July that shut down Bateman Island? The summer wasn't the same not being able to go out and enjoy the island activities. For the first time since that fire, people are being allowed back on the island!! Now, don't get too excited, it won't be open to the general public. The Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society has gotten permission to hold their First Saturday Bird Walk November 4th.

The group will take a bird watching walk escorted by park rangers. They'll be able to see how the birds and other nature is recovering after the devastating fire. No word as to when Bateman will be open for all to come and enjoy the island again, but having any one out there is a sign of progress. Hopefully, we'll be able to get back out there soon!
