It seems that everyone is being bribed to get vaccinated for Covid-19 in some way. Benton County Jail inmates are no different. Those incarcerated at the Kennewick jail are offered packages of ramen noodles to get vaccinated against the Coronavirus. The soup is a popular commissary item.

Benton County Jail staff came up with the program, "Soups for Shots" in an effort to encourage inmates to get their first covid shot.

The program is advertised on fliers around the jail. The Benton County Jail Department of Corrections is providing each inmate who starts their vaccination series with 10 free packages of ramen noodles.

No matter how long the sentence, any inmate who has not yet been vaccinated is eligible for the tasty treat. The jail has been offering the incentive since the first week of August.

So far, the Benton County Corrections Department has given out 900 packages of ramen noodles to 90 inmates.

The jail staff is doing everything it can to stop the spread of Coronavirus. It's effective and inexpensive at the same time. The program seems well-received by the inmates. The jail currently has about 360 people incarcerated.

Depending on what's available at the time, the Benton County Jail offers Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

As the jail is a confined facility, the staff has increased sanitizing measures, requiring masks and encouraging inmates to wash their hands more frequently.

The health of inmates and staff remains a priority. Soups for Shots is aimed at keeping the virus out of the Benton County Jail.
