Bennington Lake in Walla Walla County Closed to Toxic Algae Blooms
Toxic algae in Bennington Lake near Walla Walla (WWCSO)
The Walla Walla County Sheriff's Department has issued information from the WW County Health Department concerning toxic algae blooms in Bennington Lake.
The lake, located about 25 miles southeast from the city of Walla Walla, is a popular creation area. It also includes the Mill Creek area.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the Health Department and agencies who oversee the area have:
"...closed Bennington Lake to the public after a discovery of blue-green algae.
The DCH has taken and is processing water samples. Updates will be provided as more information is obtained."
They will continue to monitor the body of water, and provide updates when the algae clears and it's safe for recreation.

We're also watching Richland's Columbia River shoreline, and Moses Lake for algae as well. Hot record temps and lower water levels and flows caused this to happen.
