Ariana Grande took home the award for Artist of the Year at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, edging out stars like Cardi B, Billie Eilish and Halsey. However, she was unable to attend the event due to conflicting schedules.

Unlike last year's event, in which she performed "God Is Woman" and made her red carpet debut with then-fiancé Pete Davidson, the singer was a no-show this year because she's currently on tour in Europe. In videos posted to her Instagram Story, she enjoyed the show with her dogs in what appears to be her hotel room.

Though the Artist of the Year award was not announced on stage, Grande did receive some love via Twitter.

The 26-year-old pop star was also nominated for nine other VMAs, including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Power Anthem, Song of the Summer, Best Direction and more.

Despite all the incredible nominees in this category, Grande arguably had one of the best years of her entire career. Not only did she drop two successful albums, Sweetener and Thank U, Next, in six months, but she also dropped "Boyfriend" this summer and is currently performing her sold-out Sweetener Tour.
