Walla Walla County Sheriff's Deputies say a driver's 'apologetic' phone call about another erratic driver likely saved lives, at least averted a crash.

Saturday night, a woman driving on Highway 12 near Lowden (the little hamlet just outside of Touchet) called 911 to report a dangerously erratic vehicle on the road.

Sheriff's Deputies and Washington State Troopers were quickly able to locate the vehicle  based upon the information given, and found some shocking news. The male driver, whose name was not released, was found to be under the influence of narcotics, driving without a license, and in possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, after getting a search warrant, officers found 5.5 grams of of meth in the vehicle.

Deputies say had the driver not called this in, it's very likely the teetering motorist would have caused a crash on the busy highway, which was even more crowded with Thanksgiving travelers. Officers said the woman, like many of their callers, 'apologized' for 'taking up officers' time with a call they thought might not have been that bad.

But law enforcement officials say a LOT of their arrests and preventative actions are a result of citizens who take the time to call in with sincere concerns. Keep 'em comin!
