Police are warning that abbreviating 2020 could cost you big when it comes to fraud.

Every New Year, we have to start by retraining our brains on our check-writing and this year Police are saying that being even more vigilant could save you big money and big headaches.

If you abbreviate 2020 as "20", you leave thieves an opening to write another year in like "2019" or any other year in the 20's they pick.

Thieves are getting more and more creative when it comes to separating you from your money so be vigilant so this doesn't happen to you.

Police also warn post dating checks can cause issues as well so writing out the full month, date and year is a best practice. It does take an extra step but it's one way to guarantee that you don't get taken advantage of.
