Most of the time we like to keep things light and fun, but there are times to be more serious. 70 years ago yesterday (Feb. 23 1945) the iconic photo Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima was taken by Joe Rosenthal. It shows five United States Marines and a United States Navy corpsman raising a U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi, during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. The photo went on to win a Pulitzer Prize and is one of the most re-created photos of all time.

I draw our attention to this anniversary to say thank you to those who fought and are currently fighting in conflicts around the world. Regardless of politics or support (or disagreement) of battles, those who fight are extraordinary individuals and need to be thanked. I know I couldn't to go war facing the possibility of never coming home, so I applaud those who can, have, and do. You are amazing. Sincerely, deeply, thank you.
