Sometimes we hear about a driver slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle, passed out, usually from being impaired. But this was different.

KPD FOUND HOW MANY DRIVERS WERE ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL?

Within 20 minutes of each other Kennewick Police, early Saturday morning had to respond to not one but TWO calls about drivers passed out behind the wheel of running cars.

WHEN DID THE FIRST ONE HAPPEN?

Around 1:54 AM Officers arrived in the 8900 block of West Bonnie Ave, for a report of a car sitting in the roadway, engine running, driver unconscious behind the wheel. The slumped over 21-year-old male (whose name was not released) was awakened and field sobriety tests showed he was impaired.

Then around 2:18 AM Officers responded to ANOTHER such report, this one at the intersection of Canal and Volland, which is a rather busy intersection near the railroad underpass. At that scene they found a 26-year-old man slumped to the side, engine running, not moving. He too was found to be inebriated. No word if either driver had their vehicle in park, or just fell asleep with foot on the brake. That's actually happened before!

Both drivers were taken to the Benton County jail on DUI charges.  Police say it was very fortunate these two did not pass out while they were moving.

Speaking of weird occurrences...
